OUR PARKS, SWIMMING POOL & GOLF CLUB
Many noted citizens have left their mark on our community and we are proud to honor them in scenic parks, pavilions, and playgrounds throughout Traer. Take some time to reacquaint yourself with these beautiful landmarks and explore our heritage. And if recreation is what you're looking for check out our swimming pool complete with a water slide and our scenic 9-hole golf course.
TAYLOR PARK
Named after Traer's first mayor, Giles Taylor, and located in the center of town, Taylor Park attracts visitors from around the country to see its beautiful winter holiday light display, to picnic and celebrate life's special events, and to play in the cool waters of the new swimming pool. The park features a beautiful gazebo that hosts wedding parties, as well as, musicians and summer concerts. The large enclosed pavilion is often rented for graduation parties and family reunions. Beginning with the annual Easter Egg Hunt, summer brings families to the playground and barbeque pits and residents to the basketball court and horseshoe pits.

DENNIS FIELD
Just across Walnut Street from the school, local students are often found at Dennis Park during recess. With playground equipment and basketball courts, this park is a favorite for the active youth of Traer. With such a convenient location, this park is an easy walk or bike ride for any resident.
T.F. CLARK PARK
Located just minutes northeast of Traer, T.F. Clark Park is a country retreat for outdoor activities. This shady park is a favorite for campers with its barbeque pits, picnic tables, and campsites. Word has it that morel mushrooms were even found in T.F. Clark Park one spring not too long ago.
WILSON NATURE PRESERVE
Established in 1990 to memorialize longtime residents Carl and Evelyn Wilson, signs along Highway 63 direct visitors to this two-acre prairie restoration that includes a butterfly park and a small woodland of native trees. Located in the Prairie West subdivision in southwest Traer, Wilson Nature Preserve has been called "one of the unique city parks in Iowa." There are currently over 10 native grasses and 75 native flowers in the preserve. Since there is only 1 percent of a tall-grass virgin prairie left in Iowa, this beautiful park provides an opportunity to view what used to be common in 85 percent of the state. Those signing their names to the park's log add their signatures to those from 27 other states and five foreign countries. Naturally, the summer months are the optimum time to visit.

A SPLASH OF FUN
Traer has had a long aquatic heritage. The first pool was opened in 1931 and had a lengthy 45-year run of summer fun. By 1976 that swimming pool was deteriorating and needed replacement. A new pool was constructed and provided another 40 years of sun-soaked memories. The development of a third pool was underway in 2017, and with much anticipation, it opened in 2018 for the summer season. The new Traer Municipal Pool features a water slide, lap lanes, a zero-entry area, plenty of deck space with umbrellas, and a floating dinosaur mascot named Sparky.
