NT BASIC
Our mission is to excite and inspire young people through messages of the Bible and to create young men and women who love and follow Jesus.
NT BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) is a nondenominational, community-supported ministry that serves the Northern Tama County area. BASIC seeks to share the message of Jesus Christ with junior high and high school students. It offers them the chance to explore their faith in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, where they can spend time with their friends, enjoy games and music, and learn about God's plan for their lives.
North Tama BASIC
C.H.A.T.
C.H.A.T. stands for Christian Hands Across Traer, and it is more than just talk. It is a fund created to give a financial hand up to residents in the North Tama County Community School District for emergency situations.
Unique to northern Tama County, C.H.A.T. is a nonprofit group overseen by the Traer Ministerial Association (Methodist Church, St. Luke Lutheran Church, St. Paul Catholic Church, Ripley United Congregational Church, United Presbyterian Church) and Christian friends in the Clutier, Buckingham, Dinsdale, Geneseo, and Traer areas. The only requirement for aid is residential location in the North Tama County Community School District. It is NOT required to have children in school or attend a church.
Things happen in life that put you in a tight spot: unexpected medical needs, breakdowns, sickness, or unusual weather that calls for heat NOW. There are very few repeat clients. Some even pay back the amount they were given. Emergency funds are distributed, with restrictions in place to spend the funds at local businesses as much as possible. Referrals and suggestions are made for any other assistance they may qualify for, such as the North Tama Food Bank, M.I.C.A., and other government programs. Families or individuals are limited to a certain amount of aid from C.H.A.T. in a year.
C.H.A.T. is manned by volunteers from each church. Funds are entirely donations from churches, the Traer Foundation, the Tama County Economic Development Foundation, and individual contributors. 100 percent of donations goes to help North Tama School District clients.
C.H.A.T. is proud that the citizens of northern Tama County are so supportive, and wants to help ANYONE in The North Tama County School District who has a need.
